Clear Path Built on Action and Results
Above the Ceiling Series : 04 of 2025
KESA continues to promote Economics Excellence among its member-institutions.
This commitment is evidence in the rising number of delegates who complete university with strong academic results while still holding leadership responsibilities.
This year alone (from September to the time of writing), four KESA delegates from our member institutions earned First Class Honours. Among them is Norbert Ngetich, a standout scholar and leader from Maseno University.
Norbert completed a Bachelor of Science in Economics and Finance with IT, graduating with First Class Honours. At the same time, he served as Chairperson of the Economics Students Association of Maseno University (ESAMU).
Norbert’s leadership was characterised by clear priorities, focused work, and a personal study routine.
One of his signature achievements was hosting the 2nd National Economics Debate, co-organised with KESA. The event that brought together young, sharp economic minds from universities across the country.
The debate provided a platform for young economists to speak boldly, think critically, and occasionally realise mid-sentence that economics is actually fun.
It also placed Maseno University firmly on the map as an active contributor to national student economics conversations.
Balancing leadership and academics required discipline, and Norbert was very clear about that.
As he puts it:
“You can lead without losing academic focus. This starts with discipline. It grows through curiosity, planning, and steady effort.”
His journey shows that university leadership is not a distraction, it is training. Leading an association teaches you how to organise people. Hosting events sharpens your planning and coordination skills. Participating in debates strengthens your communications and critical thinking.
These experiences equall support academic understanding and build a strong career foundation.
Responsibility also shapes character. In Norbert’s words:
“Leadership teaches accountability. It teaches patience. It teaches the value of clear thinking.”
As he graduates, Norbert leaves behind a legacy of purposeful leadership. The students he mentored will carry his influence. Future ESAMU leaders will build on the structures he strengthened. And the debate he co-hosted will remain a reference point for years to come.
His story leaves us with a simple challenge:
What habits are you ready to build so you can lead well and study with purpose?
Be part of KESA. Your journey could be next.
